Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Resources

In Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, the Vida/Sida Cacica Pageant brings together members of the Puerto Rican community to celebrate its transgender participants. I AM THE QUEEN follows Bianca, Julissa and Jolizza as they prepare for the pageant under the guidance of Ginger Valdez, an experienced transgender from the neighborhood. These trans women share stories of their transition, their relatives' varying reactions, and how they find support from within the community.

Fifty conversations exploring the many different shades of being "gay" in America. This conversation focuses on the degrees and varying perceptions about how people define themselves, their lives, struggles and triumphs.

Gender and sexuality can be fluid, and today transgender issues are altering the nature of day-to-day interactions. What do you do when your seven-year-old son announces that he wants to be a girl? Or your husband of 30 years announces that he wants to be a woman? Broadcasting legend Katie Couric (former co-host of NBC’s Today, CBS Evening News anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent) takes us on a unique journey to discover the dynamics and complexities of gender in our world. To better understand this complicated social and scientific issue, Couric crisscrossed the U.S. to talk with scientists, psychologists, surgeons, activists, authors and families to learn more about the role of genetics, brain chemistry and modern culture on gender fluidity. She also speaks with a number of ordinary people who find their bodies and their lives on the front line of a rapidly changing world.

"The purpose of the Digital Transgender Archive (DTA) is to increase the accessibility of transgender history by providing an online hub for digitized historical materials, born-digital materials, and information on archival holdings throughout the world. Based in Worcester, Massachusetts at the College of the Holy Cross, the DTA is an international collaboration among more than sixty colleges, universities, nonprofit organizations, public libraries, and private collections. By digitally localizing a wide range of trans-related materials, the DTA expands access to trans history for academics and independent researchers alike in order to foster education and dialog concerning trans history."

The Purpose of UNITE is to provide a safe social atmosphere for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and allied (GLBTQA) people of Illinois Central College and the community incorporating nondiscrimination primarily on the basis of sexual orientation, but also race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, and military or veteran status.
