Creating an account

Navigate to Films on Demand. Once logged in with ICC username and password (if off campus), students, faculty and staff have the option of creating a personal user account. What are the benefits of doing this?

• Allows tagging and saving favorites for easy recall
• Allows curation of lists of films and segments that can be shared with other users
• Gives control of user settings including playback rate and automatic startup of closed captioning

1. To create an account, click on Your Profile in the upper right corner of the screen. 

2. You'll need to log in with your ICC credentials if you're off campus. Once you've done that (or if you're on campus), click New user? Sign up.

3. Fill out the form with the appropriate information. If you'd like, you can specify which subjects are of interest to you and opt in to receive emails to inform you of new titles based on your interests.

4. When you're finished, click the red Create Account button.

Setting your profile preferences in Films on Demand

Once you've created an account, you can set some preferences in Films on Demand. 

1. Click on Hi, [Your name] in the upper right corner.

2. Click on Account Settings. 

3. Fill out the form with the information you want saved, and then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Here are the preferences you can set: 

• Default Google Translate language
• Default citation type (MLA, Chicago, APA, Harvard)
• Default embed code size
• Video Playback (Default HD, Enable Autoplay, Enable Continuous Play)
• Playlists (Enable Continuous Play, Enable Loop)
• Caption font size
• Caption font family
• Caption font color
• Caption font background color
• An option to always start videos with closed captions enabled
• Choose which page tools are active and inactive (Share, Add to, Citation, Custom Segment, Embed/Link, and Resources)

Sharing videos from Films on Demand

You can share videos using email or by copying and pasting a link. 

Share to: Sending via email

You can share by sending to someone's (or your own) email either from the list of titles or from a specific title's page.

To send from the list of titles, follow these steps.

1. Browse or search for a title you want.

2. When you see the title on the list, click on the icon under the video's description to share. It looks like this: 

3. Fill out the form with the recipient's name and email, your name and email, and a message (optional).

4. Click send email when finished.

To send via email from the specific video's page, follow these steps.

1. Go to the page of the video you want to send, and click on the share icon (see previous step 2) under the title.

2. Fill out the form with the recipient's name and email, your name an email, and a message (optional). (See previous set of directions for a visual demonstration of what the form entails.)

3. Click Send Email when finished.

Sharing a direct link to the video

This can be done from the list of titles or from the title's specific page.

To get the direct link or embed code from the list of titles, follow these steps.

1. Browse or search for a title.

2. When you see a title you want, click on the Share icon below the video, then click Link. 

3. For the direct link, click the red button that says copy to the left of the textbox labeled Record URL and hit Ctrl + C or right click and copy.

Creating a playlist in Films on Demand

You may find it useful to organize videos--or even just segments of videos--into playlists. You'll need to have an account, so if you haven't already created one, see the box above labeled Creating Films on Demand Accounts. Then, follow the steps below to create your playlist.

1. Log in to your account.

2. Browse or search for titles.

3. When you've found a video you want to add to a playlist, click Add to +.

4. Make sure the tab you're working in underneath the words Add To is Playlist, NOT Favorites. We'll get to Favorites later.

5. Choose whether you want to add the full video by clicking ----Add Full Title---- or add just a segment by clicking on the name of the segment you want to add.

6. If you haven't already created a playlist, your only option is to type in the name of your new playlist, and then click New Playlist.

7. You'll see a green box appear above the list of segments that says Item(s) added: Go to My Content. Click there to see your list of playlists. You'll also see that you now have a dropdown option below the list of segments, whereas if you didn't have any playlists created before, that box was locked. The next time you add a segment or full title to this playlist, you can just choose your playlist from that dropdown menu and click Add to Playlist.

Adding to your Favorites in Films on Demand

You'll need to be logged in to be able to add segments or full titles to your favorites. See the box labeled Creating Films on Demand Accounts above if you haven't already created an account. Once you've logged in, follow the steps below to add videos to your Favorites.

1. Log in to your account.

2. Browse or search for titles.

3. When you've found a video you want to add to your favorites, click Add to +.

4. Check underneath where you see Add to and make sure the tab you're working in is Favorites, NOT Playlist. (See the box above for Playlists.)

5. If you don't already have a folder made, you can either select Unassigned and click Add To Folder OR you can type in the name of a new folder in the second box and click New Folder.

6. You'll see a green box appear that says Item(s) added: Go to My Content. Click there to see your list of playlists and folders. You'll also see that your new folder is now one of the dropdown options for the next time you want to add a video to your favorites.

You can also add a new folder by clicking your profile in the upper right corner and going to My Content. The catch is that you have to add at least one item to your favorites before you can create a folder this way.

Saving your search in Films on Demand

You have to be logged in to your account to save a search. See the box labeled Creating Films on Demand Accounts if you have not yet created an account. Then follow the steps below.

1. Type in your search term(s).

2. On the results page just to the right of "Search Results For: [term]" click the gray text that says Save Search with a folder icon next to it.

3. You can either name a new folder and save your search there, save your search in an already established folder, or save it without assigning a folder.

4. When you've chosen one of the options and saved in step 3, you'll see a green box that says Search Saved. Go to My Content. If you click there, you'll be taken to your list of playlists, favorites, folders, etc.

Creating your own custom segment of a video in Films on Demand

1. Go to the video's full page (i.e. you can't do this from the search results page or from a browsing page).

2. Just beneath the title, click Segment with the scissors symbol next to it.

3. To set the start time, either click the red Set Start Time button while the video is playing in the place you want your segment to start, or type in the time where you want your video to start.

4. To set the end time, either click the red Set End Time button while the video is playing where you want it to end, or type in the time where you want the video to end.

5. To set the thumbnail image that will display for your segment, click the red Set Thumbnail while the video is showing an image you want to use as a cover for your segment.

6. Type in a title for your segment (this is required).

7. Type in a description for your segment (this is NOT required).

8. If you're happy with the segment you've created, click Create Segment. If you're unhappy with it, click Clear and start over.
